Are Sphynx cats hypoallergenic
No.
There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic pet, in my experience. I will not tell you they are low-allergen.
What that word means to me
I know that is not the answer you were hoping for. I would rather hand it to you now than after you have picked out a kitten.
People use hypoallergenic like it is a guarantee. I do not have one of those to give you.
They have almost no coat, and I understand why that feels like it settles the question. It does not settle it for me. I have not met the pet that could not set something off in somebody.
So I keep that word off my kittens. It is not in what I write, and it is not what you will hear from me on the phone.
If you have never been around one
If you have never been around a Sphynx, you can visit me to gauge a reaction. That is the only reason I offer a visit for allergies. I prefer not to have visitors otherwise.
A visit is one or two adults. I do not have kids on a visit. It is too stressful for the kittens.
I take a $50 deposit that counts toward the kitten if you buy. That keeps a visit from turning into a free play date, and you get it back in your price if you go forward.
What a visit gives you is one real answer. You will know how you feel standing in a room with them. That is worth more to me than anything I could tell you over the phone.
Before you get a cat
I want allergy shots done first, before you get a cat.
That means your doctor comes before I do. I am not the person to plan your treatment, and I do not want a kitten to be the test.
Get that part handled. Then come talk to me about a kitten.
Families I have placed
I have placed kittens with allergic families. Those placements worked, except one. I think that buyer was young and used allergies as an excuse.
I am not going to turn that into a success rate for you. My house is not your house, and their bodies are not yours.
If you buy with allergies, I do not refund a returned kitten. That is for any reason. I say it up front because of that one return, and it is the thing I do not bend on.
Whether this is a fit
Not a fit if you need a pet that will not trigger allergies. I cannot offer that.
It can be a fit if you have your allergies handled, you have stood in a room with a Sphynx, and you know what you are taking on.
Questions I get about allergies
Are Sphynx cats hypoallergenic?
No. In my experience there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic pet.
Are they better for allergies than a cat with fur?
I am not going to make that claim. I do not have anything to back it up.
Can I visit to see how I react?
Yes, if you have never been around a Sphynx. A visit is one or two adults, and I do not have kids on one.
Is there a deposit for that visit?
Yes. It is $50, and it counts toward your kitten if you buy.
Should I see a doctor first?
Yes. I want allergy shots done before you get a cat.
What if I react after the kitten is home?
You can bring the kitten back to me. There is no refund on that return if you bought with allergies.
Have you placed with allergic families before?
Yes. All of those placements worked except one.
